Our Early Years Curriculum

At Chafford Tots to Teens Childcare Services, we are dedicated to providing a high-quality, holistic early years education that nurtures children’s development and prepares them for future learning. Our curriculum is carefully designed to align with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, ensuring a broad, balanced, and enriching learning experience for all children in our care.

A Holistic Approach to Learning and Development
At our setting, we recognise that children’s well-being is at the heart of everything we do. We take a holistic approach to early years education, ensuring that every child’s emotional, social, physical, and cognitive development is supported. We create an inclusive, nurturing, and stimulating environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident to explore and learn.

Our approach focuses on:
•    Emotional Well-being – Encouraging self-confidence, resilience, and emotional regulation
•    Social Development – Supporting positive relationships and effective communication skills
•    Physical Health – Promoting active play, healthy eating, and self-care
•    Cognitive Growth – Providing engaging activities that inspire curiosity and problem-solving

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The EYFS framework sets the standards for early years education and provides the foundation for children’s development from birth to five years. It is structured around seven key areas of learning and development, divided into three prime areas and four specific areas:

Prime Areas of Learning (Fundamental to lifelong learning)
•    Communication and Language – Developing speaking, listening, and understanding skills
•    Physical Development – Encouraging movement, coordination, and self-care
•    Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Building confidence, relationships, and self-awareness

Specific Areas of Learning (Expanding knowledge and understanding)
•    Literacy – Introducing early reading and writing skills
•    Mathematics – Developing number recognition, counting, and problem-solving skills
•    Understanding the World – Encouraging curiosity about people, places, and technology
•    Expressive Arts and Design – Exploring creativity through art, music, and role-play

Our Approach to Learning
Our curriculum is delivered through a play-based learning approach, ensuring that children are engaged, motivated, and inspired to explore new concepts. We provide a range of child-led and adult-guided activities, fostering independence and a love for learning.

Key features of our curriculum include:
•    Hands-on Learning – Activities such as messy play, sensory exploration, and creative arts
•    Outdoor Learning – Daily access to outdoor play, nature walks, and physical activities
•    Storytelling & Literacy – Promoting language skills through interactive storytelling and phonics-based activities
•    Mathematical Thinking – Encouraging problem-solving through counting, sorting, and measuring activities
•    Cultural Awareness & Diversity – Celebrating different cultures, festivals, and traditions to promote inclusivity

Observation, Assessment & Progress Tracking
Each child is assigned a Key Person who builds a strong relationship with them and supports their development. We use an online system to record observations, track progress, and share updates with parents, ensuring ongoing communication about each child's learning journey.

Our team regularly assesses children’s progress against the EYFS framework, allowing us to tailor activities and support each child’s individual needs. We work closely with parents to create a partnership in learning, providing guidance and support for continued development at home.

School Readiness & Transition
As children progress towards school age, we focus on developing key skills that prepare them for the next stage of their education. This includes:
•    Encouraging independence in dressing, toileting, and self-care
•    Enhancing listening and concentration skills
•    Supporting early literacy and numeracy development
•    Introducing structured routines to aid the transition to school

We liaise with local schools to ensure a smooth transition for children moving on to reception classes, helping them feel confident and prepared for their next educational step.

At Chafford Tots to Teens Childcare Services, we believe that every child is unique and deserves a learning environment where they feel safe, valued, and inspired.
